Saskatoon has recorded its fastest-ever new housing price increase and is leading the nation with a rise of 58.3 per cent from February 2007 to the same month this year.

A new housing price index report released Friday by Statistics Canada says prices of new homes in Saskatoon rose by 4.3 per cent from January to February this year, second in the country only behind Regina, which rose by seven per cent in the same time period. The capital city's index rose by 28.6 per cent from February 2007 to February 2008.

The Statistics Canada study did not quote the exact prices on which the percentage increases are based.
